One of the most common types of blade in the Viking age were those with iron inlaid inscriptions forge welded into the blade. It was usually the name of the bladesmith and used as a 'maker's mark'. There are numerous surviving examples of the famous 'ULFBERHT's and 'INGELRII's, as well as many other maker's names. Twisted damascus was hammered into the steel at a very high heat in the forge. I am happy with the result, but not sure if I will use this blade with the type H hilt previously mentioned, or leave it as an option.
